Failure Isn't Final. Harold Mawela

THE INVISIBLE GEOMETRY OF TOMORROW A Devotional Essay on Galatians 6:7 "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." — Galatians 6:7 (KJV) PART ONE: THE DIAGNOSIS The Great Deception of Our Age There is a poison spreading through the veins of our generation, and it bears the sweet name of entitlement. We have become a people who expect harvests without planting, fruit without labour, and destiny without discipline. Walk with me through the streets of Akasia, through the bustling taxi ranks of Pretoria, through the corridors of our universities and the boardrooms of our corporations—and what do we find? A generation that wants the reward without the risk, the glory without the grit, the outcome without the obedience. I see it in the young man who scrolls through Instagram for hours, watching others succeed, and whispers to himself, "When will my turn come?" I see it in the woman who prays fervently for financial breakthro...

Honour Is A Holy Prophecy A Devotional Essay by Harold Mawela From my study in Akasia, Pretoria — a stone’s throw from the Union Buildings where power is brokered, where promises are made, and where too often, honour is betrayed. Part One: The Diagnosis — What We Have Lost I sit in my study in Akasia, the Johannesburg-Pretoria traffic humming its eternal lament in the distance, and I think about honour. Not the kind that fills stadiums when the Springboks win. Not the kind that politicians demand when they step onto podiums. Not even the kind that families perform at funerals, speaking beautifully of the dead while they neglected the living. I mean holy honour. The kind that Romans 12:10 commands: "Outdo one another in showing honour." Let me tell you about a Wednesday that changed me. I was walking through the sprawling maze of Soshanguve, past the shacks that lean against each other like tired old men, past the spaza shops that sell hope in small plastic packets. A young m...

A Mind Made Up The Decisive Heart That Draws Heaven's Hand My name is Harold Mawela. I am writing to you from my study in Akasia, just north of Pretoria, where the Jacarandas are beginning to shed their purple blossom like a prayer scattered across the pavement. The air is cool this September morning, and as I sit with my Bible open to James chapter one, I find myself wrestling with a question that has haunted me for weeks—a question that I believe is haunting this nation. What are you postponing under the pretence of patience? PART ONE: The Diagnosis of a Divided Heart Let us define our terms with surgical precision. The Scripture declares unequivocally: "A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways" (James 1:8, KJV). The Greek word is dipsuchos—literally, "two-souled." It describes a person with two souls pulling in opposite directions, a man whose inner compass has two norths, a woman whose spiritual engine has two gears engaged simultaneously. Imagine, ...

Small Chores, Sacred Choir A Devotional in the Harold Mawela Style Part One: The Diagnosis The Tyranny of the Trivial Let me tell you about my Tuesday. The alarm screamed at 4:47 AM that ungodly hour when even the roosters are still negotiating with sleep. I stumbled through the dark of my Akasia home, my feet finding the cold floor tiles like a man navigating a minefield. The kettle needed filling. The dishes from last night's supper pap and morogo, now cemented to the plates like archaeological artifacts awaited their morning baptism in hot water and Sunlight liquid. The children needed uniforms ironed. The car needed petrol I couldn't afford. The inbox needed answers I didn't have. And somewhere in the middle of all this, between the scrubbing and the rushing and the relentless doing, I heard a whisper so faint I almost mistook it for the kettle's whistle: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."  I...

FOGGY PATHS, FAITHFUL FEET A Harold Mawela Devotional on Navigating Uncertainty with Divine Wisdom "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." — James 1:5 PART ONE: THE DIAGNOSIS The Paralysis of the Perplexed I stand at the intersection of Nana Sita Street and Sophie de Bruyn, watching the morning rush of Pretoria. Taxis hoot like impatient prophets, vendors hawk their wares with the desperation of men who know tomorrow is not guaranteed, and commuters weave through the chaos with the determined faces of people who have learned that hesitation is a luxury they cannot afford. Yet here I am, Harold Mawela of Akasia, a man who has written books on faith and fortune, a man who has stood in pulpits and boardrooms declaring the certainty of God's guidance—and I am frozen. The decision before me is not small. It is not simple. It is the kind of choice that rewrites futures, that redraws bound...

Burdens Broken, Bit by Bit A Harold Mawela Devotional from Akasia, Pretoria My brothers and sisters, fellow sojourners in this beautiful yet beleaguered land—greetings from the dusty streets of Akasia, where the weight of the world presses down like a Pretoria summer afternoon before the thunder breaks. I walk these roads. I see the faces. I hear the whispers. Just this past week, the news from our own community has been sobering. Our Akasia Police Station the very bastion meant to guard our families and futures is itself a fortress under siege. Tasked with patrolling one hundred and fifty square kilometres, it has barely five operational vehicles for visible policing. Suspects are processed in boardrooms because there are no holding cells. Officers, dedicated and determined, are being hospitalised for depression under the crushing weight of crumbling infrastructure. The Akasia CPF, brave and beleaguered, fights valiantly against property crime and gender-based violence yet even t...

THE ALARM CALLED ACHE When Your Wound Becomes Your Well "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." — Psalm 34:18 PART ONE: THE DIAGNOSIS When Silence Becomes Screaming The alarm has been ringing, Harold. But you have learned to sleep through the sound. Let me tell you about the morning I nearly missed it entirely. I was standing in my study here in Akasia, looking out at the familiar Pretoria skyline the same view that has witnessed my triumphs and my tears. The Jacarandas were in full bloom, their purple canopies masking the rot beneath the soil. And I felt it—that familiar ache, that persistent disquiet that had become my unwelcome companion. I had tried everything to silence it. Work. Ministry. The endless cycle of meetings and preaching and writing. I drowned it in activity like a man trying to extinguish a fire with petrol. But the ache persisted, patient as a predator, waiting for the moment when my defenses would lower. That mor...
