**Your Inner Circle Assigns Your Altar**

 ## The Gatekeepers of Your Destiny: Walking Wisely in a World of Betrayers and Builders

The rusty hinge of my Akasia gate whined like a wounded animal. *Eina*, how it protested as I pushed it open last Tuesday! Just beyond, two paths diverged: one led to Uncle Sipho’s *spaza* shop where men debated politics over steaming *mugogo*; the other wound toward Pastor Thabo’s study, smelling of old books and earnest prayer. That squeaking hinge became God’s microphone: *"Every entrance and exit, Harold, is a destiny-altering decision. Your inner circle? That’s your altar. And what you sacrifice there—your time, your trust—determines your throne."*

### The South African Crucible: Where Loyalty is Tested by Fire

We need not rehearse ancient history to taste betrayal’s venom. Consider our own soil: When the Nelson Mandela Foundation launched its 2024 campaign targeting Christian Zionists, it weaponized "human rights" language to demonize millions of faithful who find Israel’s legitimacy *in Scripture itself* . Here, the serpent’s whisper echoes Judas: *"Silver for solidarity, influence for integrity."* Naledi Pandor’s call to Hamas after October 7th wasn’t mere diplomacy—it was spiritual arson. Such events expose a brutal truth: **Not every hand extended wears a glove of grace. Some carry matches.**

In Pretoria’s paved streets and Limpopo’s dusty villages, we’ve seen how *"one toxic soul can stall a decade of destiny."* Remember the University of Pretoria’s Theology Faculty? For decades, its complicity with apartheid’s heresy proved how racial exclusion and religious exclusion feed the same beast—a failure to see that *"the true identity of any religious system is constituted by mutuality, reciprocity, inter-relatedness"* before the ultimate Horizon . When theologians traded transcendence for tribal dogma, they didn’t just betray the oppressed—they betrayed Wisdom herself.

### The Anatomy of Allies: Jonathan’s Courage vs. Judas’ Coins

Scripture sharpens our sight:

1. **Judas-Spirits Sabotage**:

They cloak themselves in intimacy—sharing bread while trading secrets. Judas didn’t wear a villain’s badge; he carried the moneybag (John 12:6). His poison? *Agreement with the enemy’s narrative.* When the Foundation vilifies Christians for biblical convictions , it demands the same choice: *"Abandon Scripture or be branded a bigot."*

2. **Jonathan-Souls Strengthen**:

True builders, like Jonathan, risk thrones for covenants (1 Samuel 18:3-4). I see them in Bishop Edward Duku of Butterworth, turning tin-shack faith into a Christian school raising "mighty young men and women of God" . They understand: **Loyalty outweighs skill.** A skilled surgeon can remove your kidney; only a loyal friend guards your soul.

🔑 **The Amos Principle**: *"Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?"* (Amos 3:3). Modern gloss? *"You become who you agree with."* Walk with wise, God-fearing companions? Wisdom seeps into your bones. Walk with fools who scorn discernment? *"Destruction digs your grave"* (Proverbs 13:20) .

### Guarding Your Gate: The Akasia Protocol

1. **Audit Your Altar**:

List your 5 closest companions. Do their conversations lift you toward Christ or pull you toward compromise? *"The companion of fools suffers harm"* —not might, not could—*suffers*. Full stop.

2. **Demand Divine Authentication**:

When partnerships arise, pray like the early church: *"Grant Your servants to speak Your word with boldness while You stretch out Your hand to heal"* (Acts 4:29-30). Divine connections bear Kingdom fruit—like the "World For Jesus" network igniting unity from the Philippines to Cuba .

3. **Expel Emotional Bribes**:

Charm without character is a coffin wrapped in ribbon. Ruth’s loyalty to Naomi wasn’t sentimental—it was covenantal: *"Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God"* (Ruth 1:16) . In a nation where tenderpreneurs peddle influence, demand *covenant—*not contracts.

### The Unbreakable Algorithm

> **Agreement → Association → Assimilation → Assignment**

Your soul assimilates what your associations agree upon. Assimilate God’s wisdom? Your assignment flourishes. Assimilate worldly compromise? Your altar crumbles.

**Prayer**:

*Heavenly Father, Maker of Mountains and Mines,*

Ignite in me the fire that consumes straw alliances.

Surround me with Jonathans—not Judases;

Builders—not betrayers.

Give me the discernment of Daniel in Babel’s boardrooms,

The courage of Esther in Ahasuerus’ courts.

Let my inner circle be a council of Christ-carriers,

Where iron sharpens iron, not ego strokes ego.

Guard my gate, Jehovah-Magen,

For my throne—and Your glory—

Depend on it.

*Amen.*

**Final Thought**: That squeaky gate in Akasia? I oiled its hinges yesterday. Now it opens silently, effortlessly. Tell me, beloved: *What relationships need the oil of discernment in your life?* The Father stands ready to anoint your choices—if you’ll hand Him the flask. 🫗

The Rooster’s Restoration

The Rooster’s Restoration: When Failure Becomes Your Foundation By Harold Mawela Akasia, Pretoria Scripture: “The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: ‘Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.’ And he went outside and wept bitterly.” (Luke 22:61-62) I woke up this past Tuesday to the sound of a rooster crowing somewhere in the dusty streets of Akasia. My neighbour, old Mr. Dlamini, keeps a few chickens in his backyard—much to the annoyance of the municipality, but that is a story for another day. That crow pierced the morning silence like a prophet’s whisper. And immediately, my mind went to Simon Peter. Now, let me be honest with you. For years, I preached Peter’s denial as a cautionary tale—a warning against pride, a lesson in failure. I stood behind pulpits in Mamelodi, in Soshanguve, in the city centre, and I would point my finger and say, “Don’t be like Peter! He boasted when he should have pray...

The Law of the Open Hand

The Law of the Open Hand: From Scarcity to Divine Supply in a Clenched-Fist World By Harold Mawela From my study in Akasia, Pretoria, I look out at a nation holding its breath. We live in the perpetual tension between promise and provision, between what is pledged from podiums and what is present in our pantries. The headlines scream of crises competing for our fragmented attention, while our hearts whisper the ancient, agonizing question: “Will there be enough?” In this climate, a primal instinct takes hold: the clench. We clench our fists around our finances, our futures, our fragile sense of security. Yet, I come to you today with a counter-intuitive, kingdom truth, a law as immutable as gravity but activated by faith: The Law of the Open Hand. The Parable of the Tightened Fist: A Story from Soshanguve Let me tell you a story. Not from a dusty theological text, but from the sun-baked streets of Soshanguve. I visited a community kitchen run by a widow, Gogo Mthembu. Her pension was a...

The Investigator's Faith

The Investigator’s Faith: Where Reason and Revelation Meet in the African Soul A Personal Encounter with Truth My friends, let me tell you about the day I became a detective of the divine. It was right here in Akasia, Pretoria, where the red soil stains your shoes and the summer heat shimmers like a mirage over the Mabopane Highway. I was sitting in my study, surrounded by books—theological tomes, scientific journals, and the daily newspaper filled with stories of load-shedding and political turmoil. That particular day, the front page carried a story about our local police station struggling with only five operational vehicles to serve 152 square kilometers . Can you imagine? How does one enforce justice without proper tools This got me thinking about our spiritual tools—how we investigate the greatest claims of truth. Are we properly equipped? I recall my uncle, a lifelong skeptic, challenging me: "How can an educated man like you believe a dead man came back to life?" Inst...
