Overcoming Mountains: The Power of Faith

Overcoming Mountains: The Power of Faith

Scripture: Matthew 17:20 - He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

1. Trust in the power of faith: Just as a tiny seed can grow into a mighty tree, your faith can move mountains in your life.

2. Stand firm in your beliefs: Like the plant breaking through the rock, stay steadfast in your convictions and beliefs, knowing that you can overcome any obstacle.

3. Keep your focus on God: By keeping your eyes on God, you can find the strength and courage to face even the most daunting challenges.

4. Embrace the force of life: Allow the force of life and God's presence to work through you, transforming obstacles into opportunities for growth.

5. Believe in the impossible: With God, all things are possible. Have faith that you can overcome any mountain in your path.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant me the strength and faith to overcome the mountains in my life. Help me to trust in Your power and guidance, knowing that with You, all things are possible. Amen.

My story

I have always been inspired by the power of nature to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Surrounded by mountains, I often found myself in awe of the sheer force of nature and the resilience of plant life.

One particular experience stands out in my mind. I was hiking up a steep mountain trail, feeling defeated by the daunting challenge ahead of me. The path was rocky and treacherous, and I could feel the weight of the mountain pressing down on me. But as I looked around, I saw a tiny plant growing from a crack in the rock, its small green leaves reaching towards the sunlight.

In that moment, I realized the profound lesson that nature was teaching me. The plant, so small and fragile, was defying the odds and thriving in an environment that seemed impossible for life to exist. It was a reminder that even the greatest obstacles can be overcome with determination and resilience.

As I continued on my journey, I thought of the words of Jesus Christ who spoke of faith moving mountains. I realized that the mountains in our lives – whether they be physical, emotional, or spiritual – can be overcome with unwavering belief and a willingness to persist against all odds.

That day, I reached the summit of the mountain, feeling a sense of accomplishment and peace that I had never experienced before. The plant growing from the rock had shown me that even in the face of the most difficult challenges, there is always a way forward.

I now carry that lesson with me in all aspects of my life, knowing that with faith in God and perseverance, anything is possible. Just as the plant conquered the rock, I too can overcome the obstacles in my path and emerge stronger and more resilient on the other side.

Go deeper

Through faith in God, believers are empowered to overcome any obstacle or challenge that may come their way. This is evident in Matthew 17:20 where Jesus tells his disciples, "Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

This verse illustrates the incredible power and strength that faith can provide in difficult situations. It is not our own strength that allows us to conquer mountains, but rather the faith and trust we place in God. As believers, we can rest assured that God is with us every step of the way, guiding us and giving us the strength we need to overcome even the most daunting challenges.

Therefore, it is through faith in God that we are able to conquer the tallest mountains standing in our way. This faith enables us to face obstacles with confidence, knowing that we are not alone in our struggles. By relying on God's strength and promises, we can move forward with courage and determination, knowing that nothing is impossible for those who believe.

The Rooster’s Restoration

The Rooster’s Restoration: When Failure Becomes Your Foundation By Harold Mawela Akasia, Pretoria Scripture: “The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: ‘Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.’ And he went outside and wept bitterly.” (Luke 22:61-62) I woke up this past Tuesday to the sound of a rooster crowing somewhere in the dusty streets of Akasia. My neighbour, old Mr. Dlamini, keeps a few chickens in his backyard—much to the annoyance of the municipality, but that is a story for another day. That crow pierced the morning silence like a prophet’s whisper. And immediately, my mind went to Simon Peter. Now, let me be honest with you. For years, I preached Peter’s denial as a cautionary tale—a warning against pride, a lesson in failure. I stood behind pulpits in Mamelodi, in Soshanguve, in the city centre, and I would point my finger and say, “Don’t be like Peter! He boasted when he should have pray...

The Law of the Open Hand

The Law of the Open Hand: From Scarcity to Divine Supply in a Clenched-Fist World By Harold Mawela From my study in Akasia, Pretoria, I look out at a nation holding its breath. We live in the perpetual tension between promise and provision, between what is pledged from podiums and what is present in our pantries. The headlines scream of crises competing for our fragmented attention, while our hearts whisper the ancient, agonizing question: “Will there be enough?” In this climate, a primal instinct takes hold: the clench. We clench our fists around our finances, our futures, our fragile sense of security. Yet, I come to you today with a counter-intuitive, kingdom truth, a law as immutable as gravity but activated by faith: The Law of the Open Hand. The Parable of the Tightened Fist: A Story from Soshanguve Let me tell you a story. Not from a dusty theological text, but from the sun-baked streets of Soshanguve. I visited a community kitchen run by a widow, Gogo Mthembu. Her pension was a...

The Investigator's Faith

The Investigator’s Faith: Where Reason and Revelation Meet in the African Soul A Personal Encounter with Truth My friends, let me tell you about the day I became a detective of the divine. It was right here in Akasia, Pretoria, where the red soil stains your shoes and the summer heat shimmers like a mirage over the Mabopane Highway. I was sitting in my study, surrounded by books—theological tomes, scientific journals, and the daily newspaper filled with stories of load-shedding and political turmoil. That particular day, the front page carried a story about our local police station struggling with only five operational vehicles to serve 152 square kilometers . Can you imagine? How does one enforce justice without proper tools This got me thinking about our spiritual tools—how we investigate the greatest claims of truth. Are we properly equipped? I recall my uncle, a lifelong skeptic, challenging me: "How can an educated man like you believe a dead man came back to life?" Inst...
