Harnessing Personal Influence for God's Kingdom

Harnessing Personal Influence for God's Kingdom

Scripture: Matthew 5:16 - "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

1. Your personal influence is a powerful tool in spreading the message of the gospel.

2. Authentic relationships and conversations can have a deeper impact than mass advertising.

3. Be intentional about sharing your faith with those you know personally.

4. Use your influence to bring hope, love, and truth to others.

5. Trust in God's guidance as you navigate using your personal influence for His Kingdom.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of personal influence. Help me to use this gift wisely and for Your glory. Guide me in spreading Your message of love and salvation to those around me through my words and actions. Amen.

My Story

As I navigate through my day, I am bombarded by carefully crafted advertisements, social media campaigns, and other media influences that seek to sway my decisions and behavior. Despite the overwhelming nature of these campaigns, I make a conscious effort to resist their pull and remain true to my own beliefs and values.

I often feel insignificant in comparison to the massive advertising budgets and expertly designed campaigns that are targeted at me. It can be easy to feel like just a drop in the ocean, unable to make a real impact in the face of such overwhelming influence.

However, I have come to realize that the most powerful influence in my life comes from the people around me - my friends, family, and community. Their opinions and guidance hold far more weight than any slick advertisement or social media post. The relationships I have built and nurtured are a source of strength and support that far surpasses any marketing campaign aimed at me.

In recognizing the power of personal influence, I have also come to understand the importance of using that influence for good. Instead of being swayed by external forces, I strive to use my connections and relationships to spread positivity, love, and the message of the gospel.

I may not have the ability to reach millions with my words and actions, but I know that the impact I can make on those around me is far more meaningful and lasting. By sharing the message of the Kingdom of God with those I know personally, I can contribute to a ripple effect of positive change that surpasses any mass promotional campaign.

In a world filled with constant noise and distractions, I choose to focus on the power of personal influence and use it to shine a light in the darkness, spreading hope and love wherever I go.

Go deeper

As believers, it is crucial for us to recognize the weight of our actions and words in influencing those around us. In Matthew 5:16, Jesus instructs us to let our light shine before others, so that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven. Our behavior and speech should reflect the love and truth of God's Kingdom, leading others to glorify Him.

In 1 Peter 3:15, we are urged to always be prepared to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope that we have. Our influence should draw others closer to God, pointing them towards the truth of His Word. Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that the power of life and death is in the tongue, emphasizing the impact our words can have on those around us.

Therefore, let us be intentional in using our personal influence to spread the love and truth of God's Kingdom. Through our actions and words, may we reflect the light of Christ and lead others to Him.

The Rooster’s Restoration

The Rooster’s Restoration: When Failure Becomes Your Foundation By Harold Mawela Akasia, Pretoria Scripture: “The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: ‘Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.’ And he went outside and wept bitterly.” (Luke 22:61-62) I woke up this past Tuesday to the sound of a rooster crowing somewhere in the dusty streets of Akasia. My neighbour, old Mr. Dlamini, keeps a few chickens in his backyard—much to the annoyance of the municipality, but that is a story for another day. That crow pierced the morning silence like a prophet’s whisper. And immediately, my mind went to Simon Peter. Now, let me be honest with you. For years, I preached Peter’s denial as a cautionary tale—a warning against pride, a lesson in failure. I stood behind pulpits in Mamelodi, in Soshanguve, in the city centre, and I would point my finger and say, “Don’t be like Peter! He boasted when he should have pray...

The Law of the Open Hand

The Law of the Open Hand: From Scarcity to Divine Supply in a Clenched-Fist World By Harold Mawela From my study in Akasia, Pretoria, I look out at a nation holding its breath. We live in the perpetual tension between promise and provision, between what is pledged from podiums and what is present in our pantries. The headlines scream of crises competing for our fragmented attention, while our hearts whisper the ancient, agonizing question: “Will there be enough?” In this climate, a primal instinct takes hold: the clench. We clench our fists around our finances, our futures, our fragile sense of security. Yet, I come to you today with a counter-intuitive, kingdom truth, a law as immutable as gravity but activated by faith: The Law of the Open Hand. The Parable of the Tightened Fist: A Story from Soshanguve Let me tell you a story. Not from a dusty theological text, but from the sun-baked streets of Soshanguve. I visited a community kitchen run by a widow, Gogo Mthembu. Her pension was a...

The Investigator's Faith

The Investigator’s Faith: Where Reason and Revelation Meet in the African Soul A Personal Encounter with Truth My friends, let me tell you about the day I became a detective of the divine. It was right here in Akasia, Pretoria, where the red soil stains your shoes and the summer heat shimmers like a mirage over the Mabopane Highway. I was sitting in my study, surrounded by books—theological tomes, scientific journals, and the daily newspaper filled with stories of load-shedding and political turmoil. That particular day, the front page carried a story about our local police station struggling with only five operational vehicles to serve 152 square kilometers . Can you imagine? How does one enforce justice without proper tools This got me thinking about our spiritual tools—how we investigate the greatest claims of truth. Are we properly equipped? I recall my uncle, a lifelong skeptic, challenging me: "How can an educated man like you believe a dead man came back to life?" Inst...
