The Power of God's Absolute Commandments

The Power of God's Absolute Commandments

Scripture: Psalm 119:105 - "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."

1. Clarity in God's guidance: God's commandments provide clear direction and guidance for our lives.

2. Universality of God's principles: God's rules are universal and timeless, transcending cultural norms and societal trends.

3. Trust in God's wisdom: Just as we trust in the laws of science, we can trust in God's commandments for our spiritual well-being.

4. Obedience as a form of protection: Following God's commandments is like wearing a spiritual safety belt, protecting us from harm.

5. Embracing God's absolutes: Let us embrace God's commandments as essential spiritual safety rules, following them diligently for the safety of our souls.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to understand the importance of following your commandments as absolutes, trusting in your wisdom and guidance. May we obediently walk in your ways, finding safety and protection in your eternal truths. Amen.

My story

In a world filled with ambiguity and shades of gray, the idea of following absolute commandments may seem rigid and confining to some. But for me, it was a source of comfort and security.

Growing up, I was always taught to follow the rules - both the ones imposed by society and the ones dictated by religion. I never questioned why certain things were considered right or wrong. It was just the way things were, and I accepted it without hesitation.

But as I got older, I started to question the validity of some of these rules. Why couldn't I make exceptions in certain situations? Why did I have to follow them all the time, without fail?

It bothered me at first, the idea of living my life by such rigid standards. But then I realized something - just like the laws of science and safety rules, these commandments were there for a reason. They were there to protect me, to keep me safe from harm.

I began to see them as spiritual safety rules, meant to guide me through life and protect my soul from harm. And so, I embraced them wholeheartedly, following them without question or exception.

And as I did, I found a sense of peace and fulfillment that I had never experienced before. I no longer felt lost or unsure of my path. I knew that as long as I followed these commandments, I would always be on the right track.

So does it bother me that my commandments are given as absolutes? Not at all. In fact, I now see them as a gift - a guiding light in a world full of darkness and uncertainty. And for that, I am eternally grateful.

Go deeper

The Power of God's Commandments is indeed unmatched, as they serve as a guide for righteousness and protection in our lives. In Psalm 19:7-11, the psalmist extols the virtues of God's law, stating that it revives the soul, makes wise the simple, rejoices the heart, enlightens the eyes, and endures forever. The commandments of God are not burdensome, but rather a source of blessing and protection for those who follow them (1 John 5:3).

Furthermore, in Proverbs 6:23, it is emphasized that the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life. By obeying God's commandments, we walk in the path of righteousness and experience the fullness of life that He intends for us. As believers, we are called to love God and keep His commandments (John 14:15), knowing that in doing so, we are protected from harm and guided towards a life of holiness and obedience. Ultimately, the power of God's commandments lies in their ability to shape our character and lead us closer to Him, ensuring our well being and protection in a world filled with sin and temptation.

The Rooster’s Restoration

The Rooster’s Restoration: When Failure Becomes Your Foundation By Harold Mawela Akasia, Pretoria Scripture: “The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: ‘Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.’ And he went outside and wept bitterly.” (Luke 22:61-62) I woke up this past Tuesday to the sound of a rooster crowing somewhere in the dusty streets of Akasia. My neighbour, old Mr. Dlamini, keeps a few chickens in his backyard—much to the annoyance of the municipality, but that is a story for another day. That crow pierced the morning silence like a prophet’s whisper. And immediately, my mind went to Simon Peter. Now, let me be honest with you. For years, I preached Peter’s denial as a cautionary tale—a warning against pride, a lesson in failure. I stood behind pulpits in Mamelodi, in Soshanguve, in the city centre, and I would point my finger and say, “Don’t be like Peter! He boasted when he should have pray...

The Law of the Open Hand

The Law of the Open Hand: From Scarcity to Divine Supply in a Clenched-Fist World By Harold Mawela From my study in Akasia, Pretoria, I look out at a nation holding its breath. We live in the perpetual tension between promise and provision, between what is pledged from podiums and what is present in our pantries. The headlines scream of crises competing for our fragmented attention, while our hearts whisper the ancient, agonizing question: “Will there be enough?” In this climate, a primal instinct takes hold: the clench. We clench our fists around our finances, our futures, our fragile sense of security. Yet, I come to you today with a counter-intuitive, kingdom truth, a law as immutable as gravity but activated by faith: The Law of the Open Hand. The Parable of the Tightened Fist: A Story from Soshanguve Let me tell you a story. Not from a dusty theological text, but from the sun-baked streets of Soshanguve. I visited a community kitchen run by a widow, Gogo Mthembu. Her pension was a...

The Investigator's Faith

The Investigator’s Faith: Where Reason and Revelation Meet in the African Soul A Personal Encounter with Truth My friends, let me tell you about the day I became a detective of the divine. It was right here in Akasia, Pretoria, where the red soil stains your shoes and the summer heat shimmers like a mirage over the Mabopane Highway. I was sitting in my study, surrounded by books—theological tomes, scientific journals, and the daily newspaper filled with stories of load-shedding and political turmoil. That particular day, the front page carried a story about our local police station struggling with only five operational vehicles to serve 152 square kilometers . Can you imagine? How does one enforce justice without proper tools This got me thinking about our spiritual tools—how we investigate the greatest claims of truth. Are we properly equipped? I recall my uncle, a lifelong skeptic, challenging me: "How can an educated man like you believe a dead man came back to life?" Inst...
