Heavenly Father, thank you for the unique calling you have placed on my life. Grant me the courage and wisdom to respond to your call with obedience and enthusiasm. Help me to discern your will and to walk in the path you have laid out for me. May my life be a testimony to your glory. In Jesus' name, amen.

My story

The air hung heavy with the scent of pine and damp earth as Sarah knelt by the lake, tears tracing paths down her dusty cheeks. The call, the unmistakable whisper she'd felt for weeks, was growing louder, an insistent drumbeat against the quiet of her soul. She'd always dreamed of becoming a doctor, following in her father's footsteps, serving the community in their small town. But this... this felt different.

The call wasn't for a career, it was for a life. A life dedicated to something beyond her own ambitions. It whispered of distant lands, of faces etched with hardship, of hands outstretched for help. It spoke of sharing the love of Christ, not in words, but in deeds.

Fear, sharp and cold, coiled in her stomach. This wasn't the comfortable path she'd envisioned. Leaving her family, her home, her life, to venture into the unknown... It seemed insurmountable.

But then, a memory surfaced, a verse from the Book of Matthew, "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." The words resonated, a gentle yet powerful reminder of her purpose.

The decision wasn't easy. Days turned into weeks, filled with agonizing prayers and conversations with her family, each one tinged with fear and uncertainty. They didn't understand, not entirely. But they understood her love for God, and they knew this calling was a part of her soul.

Finally, with a heart full of trepidation and a faith that seemed to shimmer like the sun on the lake, Sarah took a leap. She sold her belongings, said goodbye to her family, and embarked on a journey that led her to a small village nestled in the mountains.

The village was impoverished, plagued by disease and despair. But as Sarah worked, tending to the sick, teaching the children, and sharing her faith through simple acts of kindness, the fear that had gripped her began to fade. In its place grew a quiet, unwavering peace.

She wasn't a doctor, but her hands, guided by God, healed the sick. She wasn't a teacher, but her words, filled with love and compassion, nurtured the hearts of the children. She wasn't a preacher, but her life, a testament to her faith, spoke volumes.

Years passed, and Sarah witnessed the village transform. Hope blossomed in the eyes of the children, laughter echoed in the streets, and faith took root in the hearts of the people. She realized that God hadn't called her to a specific place, but to a life dedicated to His service, a life lived in obedience to His will.

The call, once a whisper, now resonated as a symphony in her soul. It was a reminder that even in the face of fear and uncertainty, the path of faith, however challenging, is always the path of true joy and purpose. It was a testament that God's call, when answered with courage and obedience, leads to a life beyond our wildest dreams.

The concept of God's call is a significant theme throughout the Bible, and it can be understood in various ways depending on the context. Let's explore this concept through a detailed exegesis.

Biblical Examples of God's Call

• Hebrew Word Study: The word "call" in Hebrew is קָרָא (qara), which means to call out, proclaim, or summon.

• Interpretation: Abraham's response was immediate obedience, demonstrating his faith in God's promises.

• Moses (Exodus 3:1-10):

• Historical Context: Moses was in Midian, having fled Egypt after killing an Egyptian.

• Cultural Context: Shepherding was a common occupation, and encountering God in a burning bush was extraordinary.

• Theological Explanation: God's call to Moses was to deliver the Israelites from slavery, revealing God's concern for His people.

• Hebrew Word Study: The word "call" in this context is קָרָא (qara), emphasizing a divine summons.

• Interpretation: Moses initially hesitated, expressing doubts about his ability, but ultimately obeyed God's command.

• Isaiah (Isaiah 6:1-8):

• Historical Context: Isaiah's vision occurred in the year King Uzziah died, a time of national uncertainty.

• Cultural Context: Prophets were often called to deliver difficult messages to the people.

• Theological Explanation: God's call to Isaiah involved a vision of His holiness and a commission to be His prophet.

• Hebrew Word Study: The word "send" in Hebrew is שָׁלַח (shalach), meaning to send or dispatch.

• Interpretation: Isaiah's response, "Here am I; send me," reflects his willingness to serve despite the challenges.

Responding to God's Call

• Personal Reflection:

• Prayer and Meditation: Seek God's guidance through prayer and meditation on His Word.

• Community and Counsel: Engage with a faith community and seek counsel from trusted spiritual leaders.

• Discernment: Consider your gifts, passions, and circumstances to discern how God might be calling you.

• Biblical Principles:

• Faith and Obedience: Like Abraham, respond with faith and obedience, trusting in God's promises (Hebrews 11:8).

• Humility and Dependence: Like Moses, acknowledge your limitations and depend on God's strength (Exodus 4:10-12).

• Willingness and Availability: Like Isaiah, be willing and available to serve God's purposes (Isaiah 6:8).

Conclusion

God's call can manifest in various ways, whether through a direct command, a vision, or a sense of purpose. The key is to respond with faith, obedience, and a willingness to serve. Reflecting on biblical examples and seeking God's guidance through prayer and community can help you discern and respond to His call in your life.

**Cultivating Patience**

 ## The Divine Delay: When God Hits Pause on Your Breakthrough (From My Akasia Veranda) Brothers, sisters, let me tell you, this Highveld sun beating down on my veranda in Akasia isn’t just baking the pavement. It’s baking my *impatience*. You know the feeling? You’ve prayed, you’ve declared, you’ve stomped the devil’s head (in the spirit, naturally!), yet that breakthrough? It feels like waiting for a Gautrain on a public holiday schedule – promised, but mysteriously absent. Psalm 27:14 shouts: *"Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage!"* But waiting? In *this* economy? With Eskom plunging us into darkness and the price of a loaf of bread climbing faster than Table Mountain? It feels less like divine strategy and more like celestial sabotage. I get it. Just last week, stuck in the eternal queue at the Spar parking lot (seems half of Tshwane had the same pap-and-chops craving), watching my dashboard clock tick towards yet another loadshedding slot, my ow...

**Beware the Bloodless Gospel**

 ## The Forge of Faith: Escaping the Bloodless Gospel’s Embrace **Akasia, Pretoria — July 2025**   The winter air bites sharp as a *mamba*’s tooth here in Akasia. I sip rooibos tea on my porch, watching the *veld* shimmer gold under a brittle sun. On my phone, headlines scream: *“59 White South Africans Granted US Refugee Status!”* . Elsewhere, a viral clip shows a prophet in sequinned robes demanding a congregant’s salary “for angelic investment.” My chest tightens. *This*, friends, is the fruit of a **bloodless gospel**—a faith anaemic, diluted, divorced from the Cross’s terrible furnace. It whispers, *“Just believe,”* ignoring Christ’s roar: *“If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me!”* (Luke 9:23).   ### I. **Your Pain Prepares Your Platform**

 ## From Ashes to Anointing: How God Forges Platforms in the Fires of Our Pain The relentless Highveld sun beat down on the N1 highway as I white-knuckled the steering wheel, crawling past the Hammanskraal junction. Brake lights shimmered like a demonic necklace ahead—another crash? Load-shedding-induced traffic chaos? Or just the eternal Tshwane roadworks? My knuckles tightened. I’d left Akasia at dawn for a crucial ministry meeting in Midrand, yet here I sat, imprisoned in steel and frustration. An SMS buzzed: *"Stage 6 until midnight. Venue has no generator. Reschedule?"* My spirit sank. The platform I’d prepared for collapsed before I’d even spoken a word. In that sweltering metal coffin, 2 Corinthians 4:17 thundered in my spirit: *"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all"* . Light? Momentary? This felt like lead and eternity. Yet God whispered: *"This gridlock is your anvil, Harold. Your pain i...
