Embracing Vulnerability: God's Power in Weakness

Embracing Vulnerability: God's Power in Weakness

**Scripture:** 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."

**Deep Thought:** Paul reminds us that our weaknesses aren't hindrances, but opportunities for God to work powerfully. Vulnerability isn't failure, but a chance for God's grace to shine. By acknowledging our limitations, we invite God to step in and show His strength through us.

**Action:** Identify a vulnerability you're facing. Offer it to God in prayer, asking for His strength and guidance.

**Prayer:** God, I acknowledge my weaknesses. Help me see them as opportunities for Your power. Empower me to embrace vulnerability and trust that Your grace is enough. Amen

My story

I sat beneath the ancient oak tree, its leaves rustling like whispers in the summer breeze. I was wrestling with a question that had been gnawing at my soul for months: What was my purpose? The answer felt elusive, like a shimmering mirage on a desert highway.

I was a talented musician, able to pour my heart into melodies that stirred emotions in others. But I felt an emptiness, a hollowness, that no amount of applause could fill. I was good at many things, but I struggled to identify the one thing that truly set my soul on fire.

One afternoon, as I scrolled through social media, a quote by Paul caught my eye. "Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me." It resonated deeply within me, like a chord struck in the heart of my being. Suddenly, the answer to my question became clear.

The emptiness I felt wasn't a lack of talent, but a lack of surrender. I had built a wall around my vulnerabilities, afraid to expose the cracks and imperfections. I was trying to control everything, to be strong and independent, when all along, the strength I truly needed was waiting to be found in weakness.

With a trembling hand, I opened my journal and began to write. I confessed my fear of failure, my insecurity about my abilities, the deep longing in my heart for a purpose that felt bigger than myself. As I wrote, the words flowed freely, like a river breaking free from its banks. The more I surrendered my vulnerabilities to the page, the more I felt a sense of peace wash over me.

It wasn't about hiding my flaws, but about acknowledging them and offering them to God. I realized that He wasn't expecting me to be perfect, but to be real. He wanted to use my imperfections, the things I thought made me weak, to make me strong.

Through those vulnerable moments, I began to see the world with fresh eyes. I started to reach out to those who were struggling, offering a listening ear, a compassionate hand, and the strength I had found in my own weakness. I used my music to express the emotions I had kept hidden for so long, and discovered a power in vulnerability that transcended mere technical skill.

My purpose, I realized, wasn't just to entertain or to impress. It was to share my heart, to connect with others on a deeper level, to be a vessel for God's love and grace. And the beauty of it all was that it didn't require me to be perfect, just honest.

My journey to finding my purpose was not a straight line, but a winding path filled with stumbles and triumphs. I learned that vulnerability isn't a sign of weakness, but a source of strength. It's the gateway to true authenticity, to deep connection, and to the incredible power of God's grace working in and through our lives. And it's in the cracks and imperfections, in the places where we feel most vulnerable, that His light shines brightest.

Go deeper

The concept of embracing vulnerability on the path to purpose is a profound and meaningful one. In the Bible, we see examples of individuals who embraced vulnerability in their journey towards fulfilling their purpose. One such example is the apostle Paul, who wrote in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."Paul understood that embracing vulnerability and acknowledging his weaknesses allowed the power of Christ to work through him. By being vulnerable, he was able to fully rely on God's strength and fulfill his purpose in spreading the gospel. In a similar way, when we embrace vulnerability in our own lives, we open ourselves up to God's transformative power. It is through our weaknesses and vulnerabilities that God's strength is made perfect. As we walk the path to discovering our purpose, it is important to be open and honest about our vulnerabilities, trusting that God can use them for His glory.Ultimately, embracing vulnerability on the path to purpose requires a deep sense of trust in God and a willingness to surrender our weaknesses to Him. It is through this surrender that we can truly experience the fullness of God's power working in and through us.

The Peace in Mystery

The Pressure of Knowing: When the Finite Mind Meets the Infinite God My friends, from my home in Akasia, north of Pretoria, I see the night sky—a tapestry of stars flung across the void, a silent proclamation of a majesty that defies our comprehension. My mind, this small vessel of thoughts and fears, tries to grasp it. It tries to grasp everything. The rising price of maize meal. The scan of a medical report. The silent dread when a child is late coming home. We live in an age that worships at the altar of knowledge. We carry supercomputers in our pockets that promise every answer, yet our national soul feels more fractured, more anxious, than ever. We are a generation under immense pressure to figure it all out—the economy, the future, the purpose, the pain. We believe if we can just understand the “why,” we can control the outcome. We believe our peace is on the other side of comprehension. But I tell you today: this pressure is a burden God never asked you to carry. The ant underst...

The Law of the Open Hand

The Law of the Open Hand: From Scarcity to Divine Supply in a Clenched-Fist World By Harold Mawela From my study in Akasia, Pretoria, I look out at a nation holding its breath. We live in the perpetual tension between promise and provision, between what is pledged from podiums and what is present in our pantries. The headlines scream of crises competing for our fragmented attention, while our hearts whisper the ancient, agonizing question: “Will there be enough?” In this climate, a primal instinct takes hold: the clench. We clench our fists around our finances, our futures, our fragile sense of security. Yet, I come to you today with a counter-intuitive, kingdom truth, a law as immutable as gravity but activated by faith: The Law of the Open Hand. The Parable of the Tightened Fist: A Story from Soshanguve Let me tell you a story. Not from a dusty theological text, but from the sun-baked streets of Soshanguve. I visited a community kitchen run by a widow, Gogo Mthembu. Her pension was a...

Faithful in the Forgotten

The Unseen Altar: Where God Forges Spiritual Depth in an Age of Instant Glory The Night the Lights Went Out The familiar, dreaded silence fell first. The hum of the refrigerator ceased mid-cycle. The bright screen of my phone, filled with the curated highlights of a dozen ministries, went black. Load-shedding had come to Akasia again. In the sudden, thick darkness, I fumbled for a candle. As the small flame took hold, it didn't just illuminate the room; it illuminated a truth. We spend so much energy trying to stay visible in the grid, terrified of the dark, when God so often uses the dark to show us the only light that truly matters. This is the tension we modern South Africans, and indeed all modern believers, must navigate. We live in a world that screams, "Your value is your visibility!" Social media metrics, church attendance numbers, and public influence are the new currencies of success. Yet, into this noise, the quiet, unwavering voice of Scripture speaks a coun...
