Embracing the Role of a Servant in God's Kingdom

Embracing the Role of a Servant in God's Kingdom

Scripture: Matthew 20:28 - "Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

1. The role of a servant in God's kingdom is not a stepping stone, but a permanent position of honor.

2. Jesus himself was a servant and calls us to follow in his footsteps.

3. Serving others is a way to show love and humility, reflecting the character of Christ.

4. Embracing the role of a servant allows us to experience the joy and fulfillment of serving others selflessly.

5. Seek to understand God's kingdom and the importance of serving in it, rather than seeking promotion or recognition.

Dear Lord, help us to embrace the role of a servant in your kingdom with humility and joy. May we follow the example of Jesus in serving others selflessly and with love. Amen.

My story

As I sat pondering these words, a sense of conviction washed over me. I realized that my perspective on servanthood was skewed by the values of the world around me. In a society that prized power, ambition, and status, serving others was seen as a means to an end – a stepping stone to something greater.

But as I reflected on the example set by the one who called me to be a servant, I began to see things differently. Jesus did not come to earth seeking glory or power; instead, he humbly served others, even to the point of laying down his life for them. He showed me that true greatness is found in selfless love and sacrifice, not in seeking recognition or advancement.

With a renewed understanding of my role as a servant, I resolved to embrace it wholeheartedly. I no longer saw it as a temporary position, but as a permanent calling to follow in the footsteps of my master. I sought to serve others with humility, compassion, and grace, knowing that in doing so, I was living out the values of the kingdom of God.

As I grew in my understanding of what it meant to be a servant, I found a deep sense of fulfillment and purpose in my work. I realized that my role was not defined by the status or recognition it brought, but by the love and care I showed to those around me. And as I lived out this calling with joy and dedication, I began to see the true nobility and importance of being a servant in the kingdom of God.

I no longer sought promotion or advancement, for I knew that my true reward lay in serving others with a heart full of love and humility. And as I continued to walk in the footsteps of my master, I found that in serving others, I was truly living out the purpose for which I was created.

Go deeper

As believers in Christ, it is essential to embrace the role of a servant in God's Kingdom. Jesus himself exemplified this attitude when he said in Matthew 20:28, "the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." In Philippians 2:5-7, we are encouraged to have the same mindset as Christ, who humbled. himself and took on the form of a servant.

As servants of God, we are called to follow Christ's example by being willing to serve others selflessly and sacrificially. In 1 Peter 4:10, we are reminded that each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.

Embracing the role of a servant in God's Kingdom is not about seeking recognition or status, but about glorifying God and advancing His Kingdom. As we serve others with love and humility, we reflect the character of Christ and fulfill our purpose as followers of God.

 ## The Divine Delay: When God Hits Pause on Your Breakthrough (From My Akasia Veranda) Brothers, sisters, let me tell you, this Highveld sun beating down on my veranda in Akasia isn’t just baking the pavement. It’s baking my *impatience*. You know the feeling? You’ve prayed, you’ve declared, you’ve stomped the devil’s head (in the spirit, naturally!), yet that breakthrough? It feels like waiting for a Gautrain on a public holiday schedule – promised, but mysteriously absent. Psalm 27:14 shouts: *"Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage!"* But waiting? In *this* economy? With Eskom plunging us into darkness and the price of a loaf of bread climbing faster than Table Mountain? It feels less like divine strategy and more like celestial sabotage. I get it. Just last week, stuck in the eternal queue at the Spar parking lot (seems half of Tshwane had the same pap-and-chops craving), watching my dashboard clock tick towards yet another loadshedding slot, my ow...
